Taking good care
The health and safety of our Senior Persons Living Connected (SLPC) community remains our highest priority.

Since January, we have been closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19. Consistent with the guidelines of Public Health and three levels of government to reduce the risk of exposure to tenants and staff, we have put many measures in place.

To date, there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 connected to SPLC.

SPLC Programs and Services

Postponed services

Effective March 16, SPLC made the difficult decision to postpone recreational group activities, health promotion workshops, and other group activities. Read the full list of postponed services.

Essential programs

SPLC staff continue to develop new ways to ensure the continuation of other essential programs and services. For a full list of services that are continuing to be provided, please click here. We have re-activated many programs virtually to keep you connected with your community.  SPLC will continue to monitor the situation and make changes to programs and services as needed to ensure the health and safety of our clients and staff.

Available programs and services

SPLC continues to offer a variety of programs and services to seniors including everything from personal care and homemaking to transportation services to online exercise videos to community support calls in multiple languages. Read on to see a full list of our programs and services available.

Outreach

SPLC staff are currently making thousands of outreach calls. We began with seniors who are high risk for health concerns at a time like this and we are continuing with many others as a way to check in with all members of our community and offer support as needed.

SPLC emergency preparedness

The SPLC Emergency Management Team meets daily to review and plan operations. The Team is comprised of members of our senior management team and staff leaders with the necessary expertise for a pandemic response. We are actively planning for business continuity and emergency preparedness organization-wide. Our Emergency Management Team reviews the many risks presented by the spread of COVID-19, including the impact on staffing. Given the uncertainty and rapidly changing circumstances, we are developing contingency plans to address potential staffing gaps.

Safety

As of March 25, in order to follow the advice of public health officials, most SPLC employees started working off-site. Staff are also screened for symptoms and recent travel. While Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (eg. masks and gowns) is in very short supply, SPLC has created a rigorous process for managing our inventory and use of PPE. This enables us to continue offering services that are safe for the senior and for the worker.

Volunteering

For the health and safety of our volunteers, and to contribute to preventing the spread of COVID-19, we have asked them to stay home, effective March 17. Their passion and energy is greatly missed. We hope that many will be able to help with launching some virtual supports and services in the near future.

Support

If you are in need of support or looking for further information about programs and services, call us at 416-493-3333 and we will connect you to the right person who can help.

Housing

Ensuring the health and safety of tenants and residents remains a top priority for SPLC. We acknowledge and appreciate the measures people have taken in order to self-isolate and practice physical distancing within the building. We ask for their ongoing support and commitment to these measures.

In accordance with guidance from public health, below is a list of measures that SPLC has put in place.  Specific information for residents and tenants can be found here.

Building restrictions

Currently, there is limited access to both the Centre and Terrace buildings. All entrances except for the main entrance of each building is closed. This is to help SPLC employees monitor and screen people who enter. Only essential service providers are allowed to enter and are screened for symptoms and travel history daily during our busiest hours. All visitors to our buildings must wear a mask. Read more about the current building restrictions.

Disinfection

Our cleaners have increased the frequency of disinfection of surfaces in common areas in the building. We are regularly disinfecting common surfaces, like door handles, elevator buttons, and washrooms.

Education and resources

Ensuring our residents have access to accurate and evidence-based information is a priority. SPLC staff are providing self-isolation information packages to people returning from travel. Signs have been posted around the building to remind everyone of the symptoms to watch for and the requirement under the Quarantine Act to self-isolate when returning from travel.

Changes at our restaurant

The Terrace Restaurant continues to be open six days per week for lunch and dinner and one day every other week for breakfast. The Terrace Restaurant is currently offering delivery services for all meals (delivery fees have been waived).
