Friendly Visiting

What is Friendly Visiting?

Friendly Visiting is a free service that matches older adults who would benefit from a weekly visit with a trained, supervised volunteer. Friendly Visiting volunteers spend time with older adults, playing games, reading, taking them on planned outings, or simply having a conversation.

What does Friendly Visiting include?
  • Weekly Visit
Once a week, your volunteer will visit you to talk, read, or play games with you. These visits are all about your favorite hobbies and interests.
  • Telephone Reassurance
If you would prefer to have scheduled calls with a volunteer, regular phone calls are arranged.
  • Friendly shopping and escorting
Volunteers can also help with grocery shopping and escorting seniors to appointments such as banking and medical appointments.

Am I eligible?

In order to be eligible for Friendly Visiting you must be 55 years of age or older and live within the following catchment area: South of Steeles to North of Ellesmere, and East of Don Mills to West of McCowan.

All participants will undergo a cognitive assessment upon referral to the Friendly Visiting program. Older adults who wish to use the Friendly Shopping or Escorting Service should be mobile enough to be escorted to their appointments and will undergo a short mobility assessment.
