New Programs Helping Seniors Access Healthy Food

SPLC Grocery Shopping and Medication Delivery Services program

Posted on Apr 21, 2020 (Updated: Jun 17, 2021)

Getting groceries during the pandemic has become stressful for a lot of us due to difficultly getting to grocery stores and long line-ups to get inside – even during special senior’s shopping hours. And while Public Health recommends anyone over the age of 70 to self-isolate, online shopping is not always an option.

To help seniors in our community stay home as often as possible, Senior Persons Living Connected (SPLC) has four programs for grocery/ food and essential items delivery.

  1. Grocery Shopping and Medication Delivery Services
  2. The Good Food Box delivery program with FoodShare
  3. Grocery Delivery Day for tenants /residents
  4. Meals on Wheels

Groceries to Your Door

Our new program, Grocery Shopping and Medication Delivery Services, helps seniors get groceries and medications delivered right to you. This program has been specifically launched as part of SPLC’s COVID-19 Response Program.

Our delivery service provides support to seniors in Markham, North York, and Scarborough. The cost of this delivery service ranges from $5.50 - $8.00 depending on your location (Click here for service area and cost). We can shop for up to eight items in each delivery.

Our delivery staff follow health and safety protocols to ensure theirs and the client’s safety.

To get started using this service, please call 416-493-3333 Mon-Friday between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. or email info@splc.ca.

The Good Food Box

In partnership with Good Food Box from FoodShare, SPLC offers delivery of fresh produce twice per month during the pandemic. The Good Food Box contains seasonal, affordable, and healthy fresh fruit and vegetables.

When you purchase a Good Food Box through SPLC, you will be able to make your own fresh, healthy, and balance meals. Options for boxes include:

  • Conventional box of fruit and vegetable (small and large)
  • Organic box of fruit and vegetables (small and large)
  • Fruit box (one size only)
  • Wellness box for seniors includes fruit and vegetables that are pre-cut
  • Smaller quantities are available for those living in Centre and Terrace

Good Food Box can be delivered to all SPLC community clients, including those living at Centre and Terrace buildings. Delivery fees will be charged to community clients based on their location.

Please call 416-493-3333 for more information. To order, please contact Elsa at ext 305 or email: elsa@splc.ca.

The Vegetable and Fruit order came, and it was like Christmas. Please thank all who made this possible. I'm so touched by how wonderful the food is. The quality and quantity is spectacular. I don't think I could have got such great fresh vegetables and fruit on my own. As I opened each of the 3 boxes it was surprise of discovery and gratitude of what was in each one. Especially being a senior at risk right now to go out and shop. So, thank you for having this service and source.
