On Saturday March 30, 2019 Senior Persons Living Connected (SPLC) hosted our annual Active Living Fair. The event brings together organizations from across Ontario that share SPLC's desire to empower older adults and help them live their best possible life. This year we brought together 17 incredible companies who offered services, programs, and resources that help older adults stay healthy and connected to the supports they need.
Organizations such as the Alzheimer Society of Toronto, the Canadian Hearing Society, CNIB, and Osteoporosis Canada were in attendance to provide a wealth of resources, products, advocacy information, and resources for caregivers supporting older adults with age related conditions. Toronto Hydro was in attendance to teach seniors about energy consumption and how to save money while being environmentally conscious. The Ontario Energy Board was there to inform seniors about its role as the province’s independent energy regulator, and in particular, how it protects consumers – by providing financial assistance to those who need it most, and by ensuring consumers are fairly treated.
Throughout the day visitors were engaged with interactive talks and activities that educated participants about the diet and exercise needs of older adults. Brain Beat Dance Canada Senior Association and the Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities intrigued visitors with gentle exercise routines and invaluable information on seniors' nutrition.
The Active Living Fair was made possible thanks to a collaboration between the Older Adults Centres' Association of Ontario (OACAO) and the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility. We are extremely grateful for their attendance and support. Thank you to each and every one of the organizations who helped make this event such a rousing success. And of course none of this would have been possible without the help of the dedicated volunteers who worked all day to ensure that each of our visitors left happy and well informed.
