On June 29th 2018, Senior Persons Living Connected (SPLC) had the pleasure of partnering with Bridlewood Mall and Toronto Public Library - Bridlewood branch for a spectacular Canada Day celebration.
Scarborough-Agincourt MP, Jean Yip began the festivities by delivering a rousing speech on the importance of embracing diversity and how vital that is to our identity as Canadians. The SPLC Link Choir followed MP Yip with their renditions of Oh Canada, Chrysanthemum Terrace, Memory Under a Light Drizzle, and Thinking of my Home Town. The choir is a group of Chinese speaking vocalists, and has been a fixture of SPLC’s Canada Day celebrations for many years.
A variety of music and entertainment routines made up the rest of the celebration, with magic, dancing, piano, and breathtaking vocal performances by a number of gifted local artists. Contemporary street dances, and hip-hop numbers interspersed more traditional routines, such as a number by the GTA Hanca Senior Association. They performed a classical Korean dance, and talented young performers from the Nupura School of Music and Dance delivered a beautiful South Indian routine set to a Tamil translation of Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You.
Master of Ceremonies, Scott Dion Brown introduced a stirring dance number from the Dynamic Line Dance Group, and a series of performances from brilliant young Canadian singers, Bella Lecomte, Edessa Andrada, and April Joyce, before showing off his own musical talent. The performances featured songs from musical icons such as Whitney Houston, Adele, and Ed Sheeran.
