Congratulations to Sakina Abbas who has been awarded the 2017 Zahra Abdille and Children Scholarship.
Sakina has been a nurse for 9 years. She started her career as a Registered Practical Nurse from Centennial College and continued to upgrade her knowledge and skills yearly. She graduated as a Registered Nurse and completed her Master of Nursing degree from Ryerson University. This summer, she completed the Primary Health Care Global Health Nurse Practitioner Program from the University of Toronto. Sakina currently holds a position as Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department, an Outpost Nurse working on remote Aboriginal Reserves; a Nurse Educator for outpost nurses, and continues to volunteer her time advising and mentoring nursing students. She hopes to continue her work with vulnerable populations and expand access of quality primary health care to all communities. In her free time Sakina enjoys Bikram yoga and rock climbing.
