On Thursday April 16th, MPP Soo Wong recognized nineteen women and girls that have been awarded Ontario’s Leading Women/Leading Girls, Building Communities Award. Jan Whyte, one of our long serving volunteers, was recognized for the "Leading Women Building Communities Award".
Jan began volunteering in 1991 as a Friendly Visitor at St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre. Over the next 12 years, she provided an essential human and community connection to women who faced isolation due to health conditions and declining social contacts. Beginning 11 years ago, Jan began volunteering in our “Sunflower” Day Program, a centre for specialized care and activation for older adults, majority women, living with dementia. Jan frequently offers extra attention or one-to-one support to those who have unique challenges. Her help and kindness also extends to our staff and volunteers who greatly admire and learn from her example and experience, and she can be relied upon to take a new person under her wing to learn from her extensive involvement with a very frail population.
Big congratulations to Jan!
