National Volunteer Week 2021

Posted on Apr 20, 2021

Thank you SPLC volunteers!

This week, April 18-24, is National Volunteer Week, a time to celebrate the dedication of volunteers across Canada. Individuals like you work so hard and demonstrate compassion by sharing your time and skills to help all in our community. This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week is The Value of One, Power of Many, honouring our individual and collective efforts.

We recognize the value of the caring and compassion that each one of you has shown, and we recognize the impact we can make when we all work together toward a common purpose: helping seniors thrive. Through the pandemic, this has been more important than ever.

Thank you to all SPLC volunteers who play a key role in our community helping to ensure our vital programs continue to be available for seniors.

We know that the pandemic has deeply affected our volunteers and, in many cases, made it difficult to support us as you normally would. The ongoing pandemic has meant that SPLC has had to change many vital in-person programs and services to virtual. We miss seeing each of you in person, and we look forward to the time when we can welcome everyone back.

Through this difficult time, we thank those of you who have been able to continue to support SPLC in different ways. Your contributions have helped keep our community connected and active by ensuring recreation programs, where many of you are both teachers and assistants, can continue online.

Many volunteers have been supporting participants with their technology needs, both phone and online platforms, and providing support in Cantonese, English, Greek, Korean Mandarin and Tamil. This has been key to helping more seniors embrace technology and maintain their connections with SPLC.

Thank you also to all SPLC volunteers providing virtual administrative support in teams like Volunteer Services, Facilities, and Health Promotions. We are thankful to each of you who remain dedicated to volunteering despite these challenging times.

Normally, we celebrate with an annual banquet in April, but because of the pandemic, SPLC is planning an alternative event later in the year. We look forward to being able to come together to recognize your efforts and achievements.
