Third dose vaccines
SPLC is pleased to inform residents and tenants in our buildings that we have arranged another mobile vaccination clinic with Scarborough Health Network (SHN).
This time, SHN will be administering the 3rd dose of the Pfizer vaccine, and 1st or 2nd doses for those who need it.
This clinic, on Nov. 9, is only for seniors who live at St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre and St. Paul’s Terrace Seniors’ Residence.
If taking a 3rd dose, you must have received your second dose at least 5 months ago (on or before June 9, 2021)
Please call 416-493-3333 to register.
If this is your first dose, you will be requested to fill out a form before the day of the clinic. Please advise our staff when you call to pre-register.

Thank you to all who attended our mobile vaccination clinic on Tues. June 8. Approximately 340 people received the Pfizer vaccine. Most people were getting their second doses.
It was a momentous day, and we are thankful for Scarborough Health Network (SHN) and SPLC staff who made the mobile clinic possible.
Vaccination support
If you were not able to attend the vaccination clinic and need our help getting your vaccine, please let us know by calling 416-493-3333. SPLC can assist with booking appointments, transportation to a community clinic, and providing other needed supports.
Important updates
- You are considered fully immunized 14 days after your second dose.
- Recognizing that not everyone in our community has been fully vaccinated yet, it is important to continue following Public Health guidelines to wash your hands, keep physical distance from others not in your household, and wear a mask.
Ontario re-opening
The Province of Ontario has a plan for re-opening. As of June 11, the Province of Ontario moves into Stage 1 of its re-opening plan. Changes include:
- Outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people are permitted
- Indoor religious services, rites and ceremonies including weddings and funerals are permitted at 15% capacity of the room
- Non-essential retail stores (except malls) can re-open with limited capacity
For a full list of what is opening, please visit: www.ontario.ca
Thank you all for your continued efforts to keep our community safe.

Working with Scarborough Health Network (SHN), SPLC organized a second mobile vaccination clinic for seniors who live in our seniors-only housing. This is the second mobile vaccination clinic we hosted.
We are happy to report that more than 105 people were vaccinated in the most recent clinic (including more than 230 in the first clinic). We are thankful to all seniors who came out for their vaccine, as well as to SPLC staff who worked so hard alongside SHN to make this clinic possible.
SPLC has been advocating for mobile vaccination clinics for seniors in multi-unit housing to help make it easier for seniors to get the vaccine. There are more than 400 seniors in our buildings, and it would have been incredibly challenging to get each of them to a mass vaccination clinic. By bringing the vaccinations to them, we were able to ensure a large group of seniors were more easily vaccinated.
SPLC recognizes there have been ongoing challenges across Toronto with getting the vaccines to seniors. Not all seniors are comfortable with the technology to navigate the online booking systems, and not everyone has family or others to support them to book it. Transportation to a vaccination clinic is also not easy for seniors who do not drive and do not feel safe taking public transit during the pandemic.
SPLC Vaccination Appointment Support – Now Available
To help more seniors in our community, SPLC is now offering support with vaccination appointments.
This service is for seniors living in Scarborough. SPLC can assist with booking their appointment, ensure they have transportation to the clinic, and provide translation support.
To access these important services, call SPLC at 416-493-3333.

There were a lot of thumbs-up and smiles this week as more than 230 seniors over age 80 were able to get their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at our housing. The vaccines were made possible through a pilot mobile vaccination clinic with Scarborough Health Network (SHN)– the first of its kind in Scarborough.
It was a momentous day for all of us! We know how challenging and isolating this last year has been on our community of seniors, and we are all thankful to see the vaccines rolling out.
SPLC has been advocating for mobile vaccination clinics in seniors’ multi-unit housing. We worked quickly with Scarborough Health Network (SHN) to make this pilot clinic at St. Paul's L'Amoreaux Centre and Terrace possible. We were thrilled to be able to host the first mobile clinic and make it possible for our most vulnerable seniors to receive the vaccine without having to leave the building.
SPLC staff were on hand during the mobile clinic to help in any way possible. Our staff worked quickly to prepare for the vaccination clinic and coordinated with those living in our housing, caregivers, and families. On the day of the clinic, we tried to make the day easier on our seniors. SPLC staff helped by guiding seniors on where to go, answering their questions, supporting them through registration, and acting as translators for SHN staff to ensure seniors were comfortable and understood all that was happening. Our staff were a familiar face to seniors throughout this busy day. Thank you to all SPLC staff for going above and beyond your regular duties to work so hard to prepare for and support this historic day. Your compassionate and caring approach to your work with our seniors is deeply appreciated.
Pfizer vaccine
During the clinic, seniors were given the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. We understand that Pfizer requires two doses for full immunity to COVID-19, but at this time, we do not know when the second dose will be available. Currently, the Government of Canada has advised that second doses may be withheld for four months in order to offer some immunity with the first dose to all Canadians.
We must continue to protect all seniors in our community.
There are still many of our seniors who have not received the vaccine and remain vulnerable to COVID-19. We ask that everyone in our community continue to follow public health measures such as wearing a mask, physical distancing, and staying home when you are sick until more people are vaccinated. It has been reported that people who have received the vaccine could still get COVID-19 and be asymptomatic. For this reason, it is especially important that we continue to protect all seniors and staff in our community until everyone has had their vaccine. It is also important to note that it may take up to two weeks after vaccination for our body to build good immunity against COVID-19. Please read our Questions and Answers on our Vaccine Update page for more information.
Advocating for all seniors in our community
During the mobile clinic, the vaccine was only offered to those 80 and older on the direction of the Province of Ontario, which has shared timelines on how the vaccines will be rolled out.. Those aged 79 and under will begin receiving their vaccinations in April.
SPLC will continue to advocate to bring another mobile vaccination clinic to our location and other seniors’ housing buildings.
