St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre has successfully renewed its accreditation status for 2010-2013. St. Paul’s, which provides community services and housing to seniors in Scarborough, received full accreditation status from the internationally recognized accrediting body, Accreditation Canada.
Part of demonstrating the quality of health care services and procedures is to have them verified by an external organization. In the pursuit of excellence, thousands of health organizations voluntarily participate in Accreditation Canada''s program each year. Accreditation Canada sets national standards for quality in healthcare and community care.
St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre began its journey of process improvement by becoming accredited in 2007. Through the process, it gained access to insightful advice and feedback from not only Accreditation Canada, but clients, staff, volunteers, partners, and board members. Equally important, St. Paul’s identified its strengths and weaknesses through the process and was able to introduce quality improvement actions into its daily operations.
In addition to St. Paul’s sterling reputation and standing in the community for over 30 years, full accreditation is one more achievement. It proves to stakeholders that St. Paul’s has undergone a rigorous process of identifying areas of strengths and weaknesses to develop a culture of continuous improvement in the delivery of programs and services. Executive Director, Larry Burke, states, “ Client-centred services need to be delivered with the highest quality and safety possible. St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre is always looking for ways to improve client outcomes and accreditation supports this goal.”
Accredited status can help agencies to stand out among the rest. It can be a helpful indicator if people are confused or overwhelmed by the sheer volume of community services available.
