Show your community spirit by participating in St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre’s 2nd annual Neighbourhood Walk for Seniors on Saturday, May 28th. The Neighbourhood Walk is an opportunity to get active, have fun and meet your neighbours while supporting seniors in the community.
St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre, a non-profit, non-denominational agency providing housing and services for seniors in Scarborough will hold its largest fundraising event on Saturday May 28th from 8:30am- 12:30pm.
All are invited to participate in the Neighbourhood Walk as walkers and help fundraise for a new vehicle to give the gift of mobility to seniors. Did you know that people outlive their ability to drive by many years? St. Paul''s transportation department serves over 1,200 older adults and seniors and provides 46,000 rides annually. Help us get to $75,000: money raised by our Neighbourhood Walk will go towards the purchase of a new bus.
St. Paul’s is partnering with L’Amoreaux Collegiate High School, Bridlewood Mall, Shoppers Drug Mart and other local businesses in the Scarborough area. It is the second Neighbourhood Walk that St. Paul’s has organized and Executive Director, Larry Burke, believes community involvement is a crucial element to the success of the event. "We are fortunate to be in a community where our neighbours strongly support our seniors. I want to thank all our supporters, students and businesses who assist our seniors in living independently with dignity and wellness." Approximately 500 people are expected to participate from ages 9 to 90 to raise money and awareness of seniors’ mobility needs. Walkers can register in advance for a $20 fee until May 27th. It is for $25 on-site registration on May 28th. All registered walkers will receive a goody bag, a free BBQ lunch and enjoy entertainment and prize draws.
Not only is the Neighbourhood Walk a chance to highlight the importance of staying physically active and support an important cause, it is also a opportunity to strengthen community ties and build positive relationships. Clients, volunteers, students and community members of all ages will join together to build new friendships and help support seniors!
