Are you searching for ways to connect with your neighbours and be a part of your community? St. Paul’s New Neighbourhood Walk for Seniors is an opportunity to get active, have fun and meet your neighbors. St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre, a non profit, non denominational agency providing housing and services for seniors in Scarborough, has announced the creation of a new community event –one that is inclusive of all ages with the goal of strengthening community. St. Paul’s NEIGHBOURHOOD WALK FOR SENIORS, scheduled for Saturday, May 8th, is a revisioning of St. Paul’s annual fundraising walkathon.
St. Paul’s is partnering with L’Amoreaux Collegiate High School, Bridlewood Mall and RBC for a fundraiser which will feature entertainment, a free BBQ lunch, prizes, and fun activities throughout the day. Larry Burke, St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre Executive Director, is optimistic about community and student involvement in this new initiative. "We are fortunate to be in a community where our neighbours strongly support our seniors. I want to particularly commend the students and staff of L''Amoreaux Collegiate for their support of our seniors. These intergenerational programs assist our seniors in living independently with dignity and wellness while providing our local students with an opportunity to contribute to their personal growth through service to their community."
Approximately 500 people are expected to participate from ages 9 to 90 to raise awareness of seniors’ needs. The staff and students of L’Amoreaux Collegiate will be participating to raise funds and have offered their school as a rallying point and finish line. Event goers will also be treated to a meet and greet with an RBC Olympic athlete who will lead the Walk.
All walkers who raise a minimum of $25 will receive a Walk for Seniors T-shirt, goody bag plus lunch. Participants can walk on their own or as part of a team. Teams will also create team names for their groups and are encouraged to decorate their one-of-a-kind t-shirts. Grand Prizes available include a bike, 24” LCD TV and digital camera. Prizes are also available for the team that collects the most money and the most creative team for t-shirt design.
The Walk is an opportunity for clients, volunteers, students and community members of all ages to join together to build new friendships, help support seniors in your community and win great prizes!
