The Start Eating Healthy and Exercise Project

St. Paul’s is leading a new community health initiative in Scarborough, The Start Eating Healthy and Exercise Project. The purpose of this project is to promote healthy living and physical activity among older adults from diverse community populations.

The project’s main objectives are to:

  • Raise awareness on the benefits of healthy eating practices.
  • Increase physical activity levels of participants through education and physical activity programs.

This project will present educational materials and conduct activities using culturally sensitive methods in languages appropriate for the target audiences i.e. English, Tamil, Somali, Cantonese and Mandarin. Workshop topics include Benefits of Healthy Eating, Canada Food Guide, Healthy Eating Shopping Tips and Benefits of Exercise.

The following community workshops are being offered by St. Paul’s to help facilitate the project’s activities, for December and January:

  • Project Participants’ Potluck Party
    December 21 (Thursday) from 12:30pm – 3:30pm
  • Health and exercise Workshop for Seniors presented in English
    Every Tuesday in January 2007 from 10:00am – 11:30am
