SPLC Omicron Update

We can beat this

Posted on Dec 17, 2021 (Updated: Jan 5, 2022)

The Province of Ontario announced on Dec. 17 new restrictions to help slow the spread of the highly infectious omicron variant.

Health officials are stressing the need for all Ontarians over age 18, and especially seniors, to get a third dose of vaccine as soon as possible which will provide the maximum amount of protection against the new variant. If you have not received dose 1 or 2 yet, now is the time.

In Scarborough, you can contact Scarborough Health Network to make an appointment or use the online booking system.

SPLC response

SPLC has already begun implementing immediate changes in response to the virus. Here’s what we are doing:

  • Upgrading masks for staff who provide direct care to persons who are infected with COVID-19 or suspected to be.
  • Temporarily closing the Terrace Restaurant. Food will be available by delivery
  • Pausing in-person Active Living Centre programs
  • Providing masks to seniors attending a service/program if they don't have one, or need a new one

Provincial Restrictions

As of Sunday Dec. 19, all areas where people meet indoors, including grocery stores, pharmacies and restaurants will be restricted to 50% capacity.

Personal gatherings must be restricted to 25 people outdoors and 10 people indoors.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore has stressed the need to take precautions to protect our most vulnerable, including seniors, by wearing a properly fitted mask, meeting outdoors, staying distanced and getting third doses of the vaccine as soon as possible.
