We’ve had a lot going on this past week – with many new donations of personal protective equipment and even a special Mother’s Day lunch. As the pandemic continues, Senior Persons Living Connected (SPLC) is reintroducing more of its programs and services virtually and by phone to continue providing support throughout our community and to those living in St Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre and St. Paul’s Terrace Seniors Residence.
Read on to find out what is new in our community.
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES UPDATE
The SPLC team has been working to come up with new ways of making sure the programs and services our community relies on are available during the pandemic. That has meant turning many programs, such as the Adult Day Programs, Caregiver Support, or Health Promotion Programs into virtual or online supports. Check out our website to see what is available.
GOOD NEWS IN OUR COMMUNITY
Mother’s Day celebration
Recently, at St Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre and St. Paul’s Terrace Seniors’ Residence, we honoured mothers with a special lunch made available for delivery through the Terrace Restaurant. We’d like to say a special thank you to Pot Belly Bags who donated insulated delivery bags to SPLC, making meal deliveries, like this one, possible.
Thank you to our community supporters
We have more good news that many individuals, businesses, and political leaders have been coming forward with donations to help our residents and tenants stay safe and well. We are thankful for their leadership and support.
We would like to acknowledge:
- MPP Aris Babikian who delivered masks, gloves, and sanitizer together with the donor, the Chinese Community Centre of Ontario
- Ms. Lee Su Ha who donated masks for Terrace Restaurant staff
- Mr. Yongshen Chen and the Great Enlightenment Buddhist Institute Society donated gloves and sanitizer
- Canadian Tamil Medical Association donated reusable masks
Looking for something to do to keep you busy? Our team has been doing an excellent job at coming up with some creative videos specifically for our community to help seniors stay active while you self isolate. Check out these excellent videos on YouTube.
There are new videos on simple yoga postures to help keep you moving while you’re at home. Or, sing along with vocal training with Gabrielle Tung.
Check back often as new videos are being uploaded regularly.
These videos are free for everyone. If you enjoy them please consider supporting us here: www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/senior-persons-living-connected/
HEALTH TIP
Grieving the loss of loved ones during the pandemic has been especially difficult because of physical distancing. For many of us whose loved ones have died during this time, it has meant that we have not been able to have funerals/memorials or share our grief the way that we might normally expect. Here are some resources to help:

THANK YOU TO THE SPLC TEAM
We are thankful for our SPLC team. Our staff and team members have been working hard through the pandemic to make sure we stay connected with our clients and help ensure they are safe and well. Our SPLC team has been working hard to modify programs, such as Adult Day Programs, Care Management, Community Health Promotion programs, and more. We are thankful for the continued efforts of the SPLC team to keep finding new ways to deliver the programs that seniors rely on.
Recently, we heard that some members from the GAIN (Geriatric Assessment and Intervention Network) Community Team truly went above and beyond, so we wanted to recognize the team’s efforts. To provide additional support to high-risk patients who did not have other supports, two of our team members visited local food banks on their behalf to pick up food for them. Thank you for helping the most vulnerable in our community.
If you know of an SPLC team member who has gone above and beyond to help during the pandemic, we want to hear about it! Email us at: info@splc.ca with the person’s name and information on how they have been helpful and we will feature them in our next community update.
