Last year was truly a milestone for Senior Persons Living Connected and St. Paul's L'Amoreaux Centre, as 2018 marked exactly 4 decades of serving the older adults of this incredibly diverse community.
Over 3,500 seniors were served in 2018 alone, and in order to ensure that SPLC continues to provide the best possible care, we voluntarily took part in Accreditation Canada's review program, and achieved the highest possible result of "Accredited with Exemplary Standing". In June we championed SPLC's goal of encouraging healthy ageing through active living, by raising over $9,000 during our annual Walk for Seniors. Thanks to generous contributions from United Way of Greater Toronto, SPLC was able to begin providing under-served and isolated seniors in the Korean, Tamil, and Mandarin communities with health, personal support, and recreational services.
In order to make our space more accessible and welcoming of everyone, the Ontario Trillium Foundation granted St. Paul's L'Amoreaux Centre with funding to renovate our main entrance and customer service reception area - keep your eyes open for the official opening details next month - and to create a community garden, which will be completed in the spring of 2019. We are grateful to the The City of Toronto for a generous grant to install attractive insulating cladding on the exterior courtyard walls of the Centre building.
In November we celebrated St. Paul's L'Amoreaux Centre's 40th anniversary by hosting 2 charity gala dinners that brought together staff, volunteers, partners, and of course the incredible seniors who we serve.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to every single person who helped make 2018 such an incredible year. Your time, energy, and generosity have made a genuine difference in the lives of older adults in northeastern Toronto.
