Communities Across the Nation Thank Volunteers

Posted on Apr 20, 2009 (Updated: Mar 28, 2017)

National Volunteer Week is April 20 to April 27, 2009. This is the time of year when we once again to give a heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers across the nation. They contribute to social causes not only with their money, but also their time. According to Volunteer Canada, 12 million volunteers every year give their time, energy and skills to make our communities better. Volunteers provide essential services without which, many organizations would not be able to carry out their missions to serve the community.

In recognition of the tireless efforts of volunteers, St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre will be joining thousands of non-profit organizations across Canada to celebrate National Volunteer Week. St. Paul’s will mark the occasion by holding its annual Volunteer Recognition Event on April 23 at the Shangri-La Convention Centre in Markham.

Larry Burke, Executive Director of St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre, underscores the immense value volunteers bring to non profits. “The help of volunteers is an essential element in our provision of programs and services to seniors. These services allow them to live in the community with dignity and good health.” Burke states, “St. Paul''s greatly appreciates the support volunteers provide to our organization in fulfilling this vision.”

The list of invitees numbers nearly 430 volunteers, local politicians, special guests, and staff who will be on hand to work the event. St. Paul’s volunteers have contributed over 43,010 hours of service equivalent to 23 full time staff! Special acknowledgements go out to 10 outstanding volunteers nominated by their supervisors for their remarkable contributions and overall support of St. Paul’s.

On April 23rd, St. Paul’s celebrates the dedicated individuals who give their work, time and compassion so generously to our organization and seniors in need.
