Canada has been a symbol of peace and serenity in the world, a place where people are granted opportunities and freedom. On June 30 th , 2010 , St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre partners again with Bridlewood Mall to celebrate Canada’s 143 rd birthday in an all ages Canada Day event, themed “A Supportive Country”. With two floors dedicated to this special annual occasion, guests will be treated to multicultural entertainment, BBQ lunch, birthday cake, prizes, and tons of activities.
A notable and popular activity involves the giant Canadian flag jigsaw puzzle created by students from L’Amoreaux Collegiate. The wooden puzzle measures 14 x 17 feet and will be located on the upper level of Bridlewood Mall. Visitors will receive a piece of the puzzle on which to express what Canada means to them and then place their piece back into the puzzle.
Other activities include Chinese calligraphy lessons where people can showcase their artistic talents by creating beautiful images; a Kids Zone with games for children; a letter writing campaign to send well wishes to our Canadian heroes serving overseas. Special guests also include Canadian veterans who have given so much of themselves for their country. Larry Burke, St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre Executive Director states, “Canada Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate the contribution our seniors have made to developing this great nation.”
The event also marks the launch of Grey Matters , an exciting live-hosted trivia game for older adults and seniors. Sponsored by our good friends at RBC, this interactive, fun filled game features fantastic prizes for individual or team players. The first game begins at 11:00am and the last game will be played at 1:30pm. Special guests will be playing Grey Matters and demonstrating their knowledge of past facts.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30th , from 10:00am to 3:30pm at Bridlewood Mall (2900 Warden Ave, Scarborough, Ontario at the NW corner of Finch and Warden). For more information, please contact St. Paul’s Recreation Coordinator at 416-493-3333 ext. 256.
