On Thursday April 29 we recognized our volunteers for their hard work, dedication and commitment at St. Paul's L'Amoreaux Centre.
Volunteers, ranging from students, residents and clients gathered in their best clothing and received their awards: bronze, silver and gold.
Speeches were given by dignitaries, Norm Kelly, Soo Wong, Arnold Chan, and Jim Karygiannis that made clear, without volunteers, organizations could not thrive. We also had the privilege of watching outstanding performances by our volunteers. This included Tamil, Chinese, Greek, and hip hop dance performances- as well as a steel band performer!
Executive Director, Diane Duncan, expressed her gratitude to our volunteers and pointed out the diversity in our volunteers & the array of languages spoken by our volunteers.
Dinner was served, awards were presented by our special guests, and the night was ended with an empowering speech by Volunteer of the Year: Muttiah Jeya veeran, known as Jey.
“'The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others,' so I encourage everyone young, old, retired, professional, homemaker, and student to start volunteering and help the many millions of people who depend on volunteers."
