Posted on May 16, 2011 (Updated: Mar 28, 2017)

St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre will host its third Active Living Fair on Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 10:00am to 3:00pm. The goals of the Fair are to raise awareness about programs and services that are available to seniors, and increase knowledge of healthy aging and active lifestyles and recognition of seniors'' contributions. This year, the focus of the Fair will be on physical activity, falls prevention and healthy eating. The fair will feature exhibitors from the community and social service agencies. There will also be exercise demonstrations for people to join in and public talks on healthy eating, physical activity and tax credits and benefits in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Also featured is an all day farmers’ market and plant sale.

There are several Active Living Fairs scheduled throughout the province at seniors’ centres to outreach to this target population and promote healthy lifestyles and raise awareness. Larry Burke, Executive Director of St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre, explains that events like this can provide vital information to seniors to continue living independently. Burke states, “Active Living Fairs offer resources and information that enable seniors to continue living independently. Such events are invaluable in connecting older adults and seniors to their communities and helping them stay healthy and active.”

A partial listing of exhibitors includes the Toronto Public Health, Toronto Master Gardeners, Older Adults Association of Ontario, CCAC, Canadian Diabetes Association. The Active Living Fair is sponsored jointly by the Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport, the Older Adult Centres’ Association of Ontario and St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre.

The Fair will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre in the Recreation area -- 3333 Finch Ave East, Scarborough (southwest corner of Finch at Warden). The Fair runs from 10:00am to 3:00pm. There will be giveaways, talks and light refreshments. Admission is free. Older adults, seniors, caregivers and families are all welcome.
