“Volunteers Make a World of Difference” - St Paul’s Volunteer Recognition Night

Posted on May 9, 2011 (Updated: Mar 28, 2017)

For more than 20 years, St Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre has held an annual Volunteer Recognition Night to express our appreciation for our extraordinary volunteers. The theme this year was “Volunteers Make a World of Difference”.

n Thursday April 21, over 130 volunteers attended the celebration of their remarkable contributions to the lives of seniors living in the L’Amoreaux neighbourhood. Those in attendance were treated to a delicious dinner at the Shangri-la Banquet Hall, performances of music on the steel drum, traditional Sri Lankan dance and a musical comedy performance. The evening included speeches from our local politicians: Gerry Philips, MPP, City Councillor Norm Kelly and Jim Karygiannis, MP.

The evening wrapped up with an awards ceremony to recognize 12 people who provided more than 500 hours of volunteering in 2010 and a Student of the Year award presented by Soo Wong, Toronto District School Board Trustee. Two people who have been volunteering with St Paul’s for 20 years were also honoured. See below for a complete list of the honourees.

All those who volunteered for 40 hours or more last year received certificates from St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre and all levels of government: city, provincial and federal.

St Paul’s is fortunate to have over 500 volunteers annually who, in 2010, contributed a total of 52,000 hours of assistance to seniors. The heartfelt gift of volunteers’ time makes many things possible for thousands of seniors who come to St Paul’s for support.

Our Volunteers Make a World of Difference

Volunteers come from all age groups and cultural backgrounds. They help deliver Meals on Wheels, make “friendly visits” to isolated seniors, help with activities in our four Day Programs, serve meals in our Terrace restaurant and much more.

New volunteers are always welcome. For more information please contact St Paul’s L’Amoreaux Centre at 416-493-3333 or email to volunteer@splc.ca.
